The public will get the opportunity to air their views as to the future of the area around one of the most iconic buildings in London. This will occur via a number of independent consultation workshops that will kick off on February 1 and 2.
Locals have been asked to share their aspirations for the mixed use redevelopment of the Shell Centre, which includes a significant amount of Soho office space on the South Bank of the capital. This area is under development via a joint venture between Qatari Diar and the Canary Wharf Group. The proposals are set to incorporate a new Shell office building as well as the existing Shell tower, with Shell expecting that they will remain in occupation for the rest of the time that the redevelopment is underway. Some personnel, however, have already shifted to office space located in Canary Wharf.
The workshops, which are being led by independent consultants Soundings, are intended to allow the proposals to respond to the requirements of local employees, Waterloo residents and even visitors who happen to enjoy making use of the facilities in the South Bank area. The importance of this area of the South Bank as a cultural destination and transportation hub of London is being emphasised by this exercise.
“It’s really important that local people have the chance to tell us what they’d like from the Shell Centre,” a spokesperson said.
