Taylor Wimpey has been given the task of building a brand new mixed-use development, which will be constructed in the north of London in a move that is expected to bolster significantly local construction recruitment.
The developer was appointed by business space provider Workspace to undertake an overhaul of the Aberdeen Centre in Islington. The site spans 1.9 acres of land and is the development of a new business centre comprising 63,000 square feet. It is expected to cost somewhere in the way of £55 million. The redevelopment project will also entail the construction of as many as 72 new houses and apartments, which will replace the existing 53,000 square feet of industrial light and studio space. The scheme is scheduled to be completed sometime in 2014.
The news of the redevelopment follows on from an announcement made earlier in 2011 which revealed that Workspace had signed an agreement with Mount Anvil to construct a similar mixed use scheme that would be situated in Wandsworth in the southwest of London and which would cost approximately £80 million.
Just last month Derwent was given permission by Islington Council to commence with the £105 million redevelopment of a site situated on City Road Estate. The site, which spans one acre of land, will soon comprise of 271,000 square feet of office space, 8000 square feet of residential accommodation, and 10,000 square feet of retail space.
